Decluttering your home can be a daunting task and the pressure of setting a new year’s resolution to keep a tidy home. We’ve found that when it comes to boring but necessary tasks like decluttering taking that first step can be the hardest part so here’s a list of some actions you can take to help you hit the ground running…
Create A ‘Declutter Checklist’
This can help as most people find great satisfaction in ticking an accomplishment off of their list you could do this by creating a section for each room and then filling in anywhere from 5-20 items to cross off once you’ve sorted them.
Fill A Black Bag
A very simple approach to decluttering can be getting a bin bag & filling it with any obvious clutter, from my experience this can help you get some great momentum, and often when you fill one bag you’re raring to fill another!
Taking Before & After Photos
If you take a before photo of a specific room or area in your house then tidy it and take an after photo this can quickly motivate you to clear more areas of your home as you have a clear comparison so will always have the more desirable & tidy image at the top of your mind when you look at it. This can help you keep in the habit of putting everything in its place.
Donate The Clothes That You Don’t Wear
This step can be easier said than done so an easy way to help you find out what you do and don’t wear. You can hang all your clothes in the reverse direction then after a month or two review your wardrobe any items that are still in reverse you can donate to charity as you don’t wear them.
View Your Home Like A Potential Buyer
Walk into each room in your home and any off-putting clutter that jumps to your attention, tidy it away there, and then go through each room in your house and put yourself into the shoes of a buyer and consider whether you would buy your home based on its presentation.
